Compact radiation detector could expedite the use of dynamic PET

Congratulations to Liam Carroll, PhD student at the EngerLab for being featured in physicsworld.com for his recent publication titled “Simulation of a novel, non-invasive radiation detector to measure the arterial input function for dynamic positron emission tomography”. The aim of this study was to (A) optimize the geometry for a novel and cost efficient non-invasive detector designed to […]

Welcome Björn Morén! Our newest postdoctoral fellow coming to us from Linköping University in Sweden.

Björn will work on robust optimization for intensity modulated brachytherapy. During his PhD thesis, Björn applied mathematical optimization algorithms to model and solve the treatment planning problem for brachytherapy.

Our paper ” RapidBrachyDL: Rapid Radiation Dose Calculations in Brachytherapy via Deep Learning” was editor’s pick in the ESTRO news letter.

In this paper, we have replaced the time consuming Mone Carlo method  for use in brachytherapy dose calculations with a 3-dimensional deep convolutional neural network model to provide fast and accurate dose estimations. The work by Ximeng Mao during his master’s studies at the Enger Lab and in collaboration with Dr. Joelle Pineau allows for dose simulations that are as accurate as the gold-standard Monte-Carlo methods but take much less time. A brief discription of the RapidBrachyDL has become the editor’s pick in ESTRO news letter. More
