Congratulations to Julien Mégrourèche, Dr. Hamed Bekerat, Jingyi Bian, and Alaina Bui for their publication titled, “Development of a hydrated electron dosimeter for radiotherapy applications: A proof of concept”.

EngerLab PhD student Jingyi Bian and previous MSc student are co-authors on this paper which provided a proof of concept for a hydrated electron dosimeter for radiotherapy dosimetry. This dosimeter was shown to be effective for low-dose-per-pulse linear accelerators. Read more here: Mégrourèche J, Bekerat H, Bian J, Bui A, Sankey J, Childress L, Enger

Congratulations Jingyi Bian and Juan Duran for their recent publication titled, “GEANT4-DNA simulation of temperature-dependent and pH-dependent yields of chemical radiolytic species” in the Physics in Medicine and Biology journal!

This work allows for the calculation ofG-values for radiolytic species at different temperatures and pH values through the modifications done by Jingyi to the source code of GEANT4-DNA. Congratulations to Francisco for his paper “Fast DM,M calculation in LDR brachytherapy using deep learning methods” being published in the Physics in Medicine and Biology journal!

This work describes a method developed by Francisco which applies a deep learning trained with Monte-Carlo simulations to predict dose to medium for LDR prostate brachytherapy, considering the anisotropy of a brachytherapy source and patient tissue composition. Congratulations to Alaina Bui for her paper “Effects of incoming particle energy and cluster size on the G-value of hydrated electrons” being published in the European Journal of Medical Physics!

This paper culminated from Alaina’s master’s work in the EngerLab on hydrated electron dosimetry. In this study, GEANT4-DNA was used to calculate G-values for reactive species produced during water radiolysis. The results of this work show that GEANT4-DNA can be used to calculate G-values for hydrated electron dosimetry for clinically relevant energies. Read more here:
